How to Write a JIRA Ticket

1. Write the Title

A great ticket title starts with a verb and describes action to be taken. Ex: Remove Uppercase from FI Store/Restaurant Names.

2. Write the Ticket

Use the following templates to write the ticket depending on if it’s a Defect or an Enhancement.

Defect

  • Description: Concise sentence explaining the issue
  • Impact (optional): What will happen as a result of this defect?
  • Steps to Reproduce: Step-by-step instructions on how someone else can reproduce the issue on their own device. Provide URLs, screenshots, and as much detail as possible.
  • Expected Results: Describe what you’re expecting to see.
  • Actual Results: Describe what you’re actually seeing.

Enhancement

  • User Story: As an X, I want to do Y
  • Current State: Describe the current functionality.
  • Future State/Business Requirement: What do you want the end result to look like?
  • Justification (optional): What benefits will be gained once moved to the future state?

 3. Assign and Submit

Assign the ticket to the product owner so they can help manage the ticket:
