How to Write a JIRA Ticket
1. Write the Title
A great ticket title starts with a verb and describes action to be taken. Ex: Remove Uppercase from FI Store/Restaurant Names.
2. Write the Ticket
Use the following templates to write the ticket depending on if it’s a Defect or an Enhancement.
Defect
- Description: Concise sentence explaining the issue
- Impact (optional): What will happen as a result of this defect?
- Steps to Reproduce: Step-by-step instructions on how someone else can reproduce the issue on their own device. Provide URLs, screenshots, and as much detail as possible.
- Expected Results: Describe what you’re expecting to see.
- Actual Results: Describe what you’re actually seeing.
Enhancement
- User Story: As an X, I want to do Y
- Current State: Describe the current functionality.
- Future State/Business Requirement: What do you want the end result to look like?
- Justification (optional): What benefits will be gained once moved to the future state?
3. Assign and Submit
Assign the ticket to the product owner so they can help manage the ticket:

Then click Create:

4. Drag to Top
Finally, drag the ticket to the top of the Backlog so that it doesn’t get lost.
